A Gay Old Time
Commence, Comics, Classics, Cheeseburgers, Oh My!
Welcome!
Hello friends! I’m thrilled to announce my BRAND NEW newsletter. It will be a slice of my life, career, films, and even cheeseburgers. But first, a bit about me for those who are just coming across this.
Short version: I’m an Eisner Award-winning writer of comic books, OGNs, television, film, and stage. I co-created the Eisner winning OGN “Return of the Dapper Men” with Janet K. Lee. More on that soon. (A bonus for subscribers to the newsletter is you will get inside, and often first look information about projects!) I’ve written for the ABC Daytime Soap One Life to Live (RIP), Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and won awards for my writing and directing of stage plays. I’m branching out, finally, into To-Do lists as well (I did say this was a slice of my life).
I grew up in Nashville, TN, went to college at Xavier University in Cincinnati, moved to New York City where I worked 8 years at Marvel Publishing, and finally moved Los Angeles where I currently reside with my husband and my dog. Other works you might know are: New Avengers The Reunion, Hawkeye and Mockingbird, Hawkeye Blindspot, Zombie Christmas Carol, Star Trek Year Five, Lost Vegas, and Mind the Gap.
BIG NEWS: I’m writing a creator-owned book for Ignition Press! Over the next few months I’ll be sharing some tidbits of information but it’s extremely exciting and Ignition is great to work with. For more info, check out their site www.ignitionpress.com and sign up for updates! It’s totally worth it! (comics rock!)
This inaugural installment is meant to introduce you to topics that will be featured in future newsletters. I’ll be rotating some of these, so don’t worry, you won’t need a TL;DR for each one. Let’s get started with bullet points of each!
Shelf Talk
Most of you are comic book readers. For those who are not, hopefully this will give you a starting place to jump on as I talk about a comic that I either have recently read or one that sticks with me still.

Classic View
My love for classic films of the 30s-60s is well known. In this section, we will talk about a movie we’ve watched since the previous newsletter. For instance, or in this case, for the first one, we will watch and discuss the 1934 rom-com mystery THE THIN MAN. This I hope, will be an interactive part of the newsletter each installment where I would love to get your thoughts on the movie and maybe even answer any questions you might have! Happy watching and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on THE THIN MAN.

Bliss or Blahs
Quite simply, this is about moments of joy or what made me happy since the previous installment. Since we all have bad days, it may often be about one and what little thing brought me out of it.
Today’s Bliss or Blah is… the song Let’s Do This by Outskrts, my current motivation song.
Lore Drop
Similar to Shelf Talk, this will be a section to get to know how I got here, my love of many topics, and what made me who I am today!
Willie’s World
I’m the proud doggie dad of a Maltipoo named Willie Scott, after the character in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM! I’ll occasionally post a story or a cute pic for laughs and fun.

Cheeseburger in Paradise
I told you there’d be cheeseburgers. Along with macaroni and cheese, a good cheeseburger is my favorite food (the more you know!). I’m always in search of the perfect cheeseburger. I tend to stay away from chains in this, but if you have any suggestions, fire away!
This week’s shoutout is to RuPaul’s Season 16 contestant Plain Jane’s song “Burger Finger”!

You Asked for It!
This space belongs to you, dear reader! Share thoughts, suggestions, or just what’s on your mind. You’ll get published here! I want this to be an interactive experience, so let me know here what’s up.
This week’s prompt is: What would you like to see more of in the newsletter?
Until Next Time…
If you made it this far, thanks! I’m super thrilled that you’re here on this comic, film, cheeseburger, etc. loving ride. Please spread the word and get your friends to subscribe!
In the meantime, I’ll be looking at this and following its message:

Yes, that’s real and on my arm
Stay rad!
Jim
